Fourteen beneficiaries of the MTN Bright Scholarship scheme have graduated from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
The fourteen beneficiaries are part of a pool of 30 students who were supported under the MTN Bright Scholarship Foundation who will complete this year.
Five of them pursued Medicine and Five also pursued Pharmacy.
MTN Bright Scholarship was initiated in 2018 to fulfil a commitment MTN made to Ghanaians during the commemoration of its 20th Anniversary in 2016.
The Scholarship provides badly needed financial assistance to needy and brilliant students in public tertiary institutions.
It covers the cost of tuition, accommodation, a stipend for books and other relevant reading materials for the entire duration of their studies.
Speaking to the media after the 57 Congregation Ceremony, Mr Robert Kuzoe of the MTN Ghana Foundation commended the graduates for making the company proud and ensuring value for money.
Mr Kuzoe advised the beneficiaries to utilize the knowledge acquired to make the company proud, as it will serve as a source of encouragement for management to extend support to more students across the country.
Dr Albert Kwaku Boahen, who was named the overall best student of Medicine and Surgery commended MTN for their support, saying the intervention has helped him achieve his dream.
Dr Albert Kwaku Boahen said MTN Ghana helped him with everything, especially his tuition fees, books, accommodation et al.
He urged brilliant but needy students to be determined, focused and rely on God and for that matter, there will be light at the end of the tunnel.
Dr Adjoa Enyidado Hackman a graduate of Pharmacy revealed that she was going through complex challenges in life but MTN Ghana came to her rescue.
“I commend MTN for the enormous support. God bless MTN Ghana. My brothers and sisters at home should keep learning hard and be prayerful and God will open doors for them,” Dr Adjoa Enyidado Hackman said.
Dr Emmanuel Koomson, a graduate of Pharmacy narrated sadly how he wrote WASSCE in 2017 and got admission to KNUST but financial constraints surfaced.
Dr Emmanuel Koomson said his parents had to secure a loan to support him but the loan was not enough.
“A friend of mine encouraged me to apply for the MTN Bright Scholarship. I applied for the scholarship but I forgot because there was an advert that there would be a list of successful applicants which never came.”
Dr Emmanuel Koomson continued: “I received a phone call from an unknown number to come for an interview during vacation and I went for the interview. After the interview, I received a call that I have successfully qualified for the Scholarship and that was in my first year.
He said that MTN Ghana paid for his tuition, accommodation, books and semester-based tuition.
Dr Emmanuel Koomson lauded MTN Foundation Ghana for having a great impact on his life.
