Ghana’s Black Satellites encountered a stalemate as they battled Congo to a goalless draw on Friday, March 8, at the Accra Sports Stadium in their opener of the 2023 African Games.

The 13th All African Games is underway in Accra, the capital city of Ghana with several countries fighting for honours in various disciplines.

Despite an encouraging start, Desmond Ofei’s squad was unable to capitalize on their opportunities, leaving them with only a single point in Group A.

Throughout the match, Ghana maintained dominance in possession, keeping their Congolese opponents at bay, yet their efforts couldn’t translate into a decisive breakthrough.

Following a scoreless first half, Ghana continued their offensive momentum into the second period, even having a goal disallowed due to offside. However, neither side could find the back of the net, resulting in a 0-0 deadlock after 90 minutes.

With each team securing a point from the encounter, attention now shifts to the upcoming Group A fixture between The Gambia and Benin, where both teams will vie for three crucial points.

Looking ahead, Ghana’s Black Satellites are set to face off against Gambia on March 12 in their next match of the tournament.
