2023 Schools Placement Highest In Enrollment So Far – Adutwum2 min read
Minister of Education Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum has admitted that the school placement faced challenges but this year’s recorded the highest in the country.
According to him, the Ministry was able to place 95 percent of 2023 Junior High School graduates into various senior high schools (SHSs) in the country.
Addressing members of the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs in Kumasi, Dr Adutwum stated that 81 percent of students were automatically placed into their selected schools with 19 percent depending on self-placement.
The meeting was to give an account of his achievement as the sector minister to the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs General Meeting.
In attendance were the members of the Kumasi Traditional Council, members of the Regional House of Chiefs and the Asantehene himself.
The Education Minister, Dr Osei Yaw Adutwum, was of the view that enrollment this year has become the highest recorded since the introduction of the placement system.
He used the occasion to address several issues concerning education including the challenges with the 2023 SHS placement.
He admitted challenges facing the system, but said 95 percent of JHS graduates have been successfully placed into various schools.
“We have increased the placement of students. Over the years you get about 30% of students not getting a school. This year, we had 81% of students automatically placed in schools with about 19% left.”
He reiterated government’s commitment towards education in the country.
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, admonished chiefs to inspect the educational infrastructure and their progress in their communities.
“Nananom, we have heard everything the minister said. He has spoken so well about his work including Math and Science improvement and the school placement concerns. What we have to do is to also follow up on all the educational infrastructure projects in our various places to inspect and witness the progress of work.”
