Thousands of Nigerians are set to gather in cities across Nigeria to voice their dissent against what they call the ineffective policies of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

This demonstration, dubbed the National Day of Survival, aims to highlight the economic struggles faced by millions as the country marks its 64th Independence Anniversary.

In light of rising living costs and a faltering economy, President Tinubu has opted for a subdued celebration of Independence Day.

This protest follows a recent wave of #EndBadGovernance demonstrations that took place over ten days in August, during which several protesters were arrested, and at least ten faced treason charges.

A coalition of around ten organizations, including the Youth Rights Campaign (YRC) and Movement for Fundamental Change (MFC), has urged citizens to participate peacefully in the nationwide protests. The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has mandated strict security measures, while the Defence Headquarters has placed troops on standby to assist law enforcement.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a warning to security forces to respect citizens’ rights to protest, condemning the arrests and violence against demonstrators during previous protests.
