In her riveting memoir, “I Am Not Yvonne Nelson,”  Ghanaian actress and humanitarian, Yvonne Nelson has shed light on how her status as a celebrity in Nigeria earned more money than her acting career back home in Ghana.

In the memoir, Yvonne Nelson offers a unique glimpse into celebrity culture and the balancing act required to navigate personal and professional life.

According to the ‘Princess Tyra actress, the allure of attending high-profile events affected her and later her social circle.

She recounted instances where people would go as far as hosting parties and paying celebrities like herself to attend, solely to showcase their own standing or class.

“There were people who held parties and were prepared to pay you to attend just to enhance their status or show their class, the array of celebrities that attended someone’s party showed who they were and being present at someone’s birthday or some other celebratory event sometimes paid me more than acting in a movie in Ghana,” she revealed in the memoir.

While the allure of the celebrity lifestyle was undeniable, Nelson acknowledged the difficulties she faced in maintaining a healthy work-life balance as she battled working late into the night on film sets only to be met with friends eager to socialize at nightclubs.

“What made life difficult was the pressure from my circle of friends, some of whom wanted to hang out with me at times I was too tired to party. I often worked deep into the night, and when I was burned out, some friends would want to hang out with me at nightclubs. Some of them would still be sleeping the following morning when I had to wash down and start shooting,” she added.
