Year Of Destoolment: Otumfuo Destools Childhood Friend, Aduamoahene For Using Land Guards2 min read
Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has destooled Aduamoahene, Nana Osei Tiri Ababio who doubles as Otumfuo Nkonsokonsohene 72 hours after the destoolment of Asante Bekwai Abodomahene.
The Asantehene is unhappy about the activities and behaviors of some Chiefs within his kingdom and is cracking the whip to sanitize the traditional settings under his Kingdom.
The destooled Chief defied Otumfuo’s order over a land dispute before his council for resolution and ordered no Chief should step on the land until a final decision is taken on the matter.
Unfortunately, Nana Osei Tiri Ababio deployed land guards to the land under dispute and attacked other tenants with machetes and broken bottles.
The exhibits were brought as a petition including video evidence before Otumfuo at the traditional Council sittings in Manhyia Palace but the destooled Chief denied initiating the attack even though Otumfuo was in the know of the case.
Delivering his judgment on the matter, the Asantehene said, ”before the demise of Kyeame Duah, I told you to release his portion of the land under dispute, didn’t I tell you? wasn’t Atenehene there before you why are you rushing like that. I have had enough of you. Because we were childhood friends who grew together here you have taken my leniency towards you as my weakness. Yaw Duah we all serve in my Manhyia together so why?”.
Otumfuo added “You have abandoned the traditional stools entrusted under your care at Kotei you don’t even go to perform traditional rites there you think I don’t Know, I’m very aware of that. I wanted to help you to die on the stool but it’s clear that you don’t want to die on the stool so leave the stool’’ he ordered.
Immediately Otumfuo ended the statement, Nana Osei Tiri Ababio traditional sandals was removed, and his destoolment was announced.
His son who he enstooled as Kyeidomhene of the Aduamoah traditional area was also destooled after his father in Manhyia palace.
In the coming days a number of Chief in Asante Kingdom are facing destoolment over double sale of lands for estate projects and release of lands and river bodies including forest reserves for illegal mining activities also known as Galamsey.
Otumfuo is conduct elaborate hearings into reports of abuse of the environment, land tenure frauds among other issues reported about Chiefs.
Earlier last month, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, destooled Nana Saforo Koto, the Chief of Bekwai-Abodom. The destoolment is as a result of Nana Saforo Koto’s inability to defend himself against nearly 20 charges presented by concerned residents within his community.
