The Mayor of Kumasi, Hon Samuel Pyne Monday morning visited seven (7) centers where final year Senior High School students were sitting for the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations (WASSCE).

Schools visited were Kumasi Anglican Senior High, Armed Forces Senior Technical High School, Serwaah Nyarko SHS, Prince of Peace SHS, Kumasi Secondary Technical Senior High School, Adventist SHS and J.A Kufuor Senior High School.

Speaking to the media after the visits, the Mayor noted his contentment with the general comportment of the students, adding that he was hopeful they will not spoil facilities on campus just because they were finishing the exams.

‘’I am happy with what I saw when we went around and I was highly impressed with the discipline displayed by the students. I have high hopes that the discipline will translate into positive outcomes so that Greater Kumasi Schools will be the best performing ones in this year’s WASSCE’’, the Mayor stated.

Issues:

The mayor stated that previously students who completed their papers took to unruly behaviors with some destroying facilities on campus after their last papers.

He noted that finishing SHS was not the end of their educational path because they still had a long way to go.

The mayor also revealed that there were a lot of issues at some of the schools visited ranging from lack of adequate infrastructure and other teaching and learning challenges.

‘’I have admonished the students to keep their discipline as they go home after the papers to wait for their results and pray to get good grades so they can continue their education to the highest level because qualification for the job market is getting higher by the year’’, Hon Pyne intimated.
