Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) says it is not expecting the government to introduce a new tax on petrol in the 2024 budget reading.

According to COPEC there is an unspoken rule that a litre is tantamount to 1 dollar.

The Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, is scheduled to present the government’s 2024 Annual Budget Statement and Economic Policy to Parliament on Wednesday, November 15, 2023.

Ahead of the presentation, there have been calls for the government to significantly reduce its expenditure to rescue the ailing economy.

Speaking on the Ama Ghana Morning Show on Time FM, the Executive Secretary for COPEC, Duncan Amoah said looking at the inflation rate which is hovering around 35%, it will be deliberate by government to introduce new tax.

Mr Amoah said he won’t be surprised if government introduce electronic toll collection.
