Sustainability Manager at Anglo-Gold Ashanti (AGA), Mr Emmanuel Massey says the mining company was in operation and functioning at optimal levels.
He noted that currently, the mine has between 2000 and 2, 500 workers who were offering direct and support services.
In an interaction with some media persons as well as officers from the Ashanti Regional Communication Directorate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who had visited to verify claims by flag-bearer of the NDC, John Mahama that the the AGA was non-functional, the Sustainability Manager said the mine has been operating without break since 2019.
This, he noted has been the case after receiving government support to make every aspect functional in 2019.
Details:
The Sustainability Manager said the company went through a period of difficulty between 2014 and 2017.
The company, he revealed decided to suspend operations in 2014 but decided to carry out series of maintenance measures so that it could keep the facility and equipment in good shape.
Mr Massey said the company was producing gold and had been paying taxes and dividends to government from that time.
He stressed that the focus of the Mining company was to continue to produce gold and carry out its corporate social responsibilities to the community they mine from.
Briefing:
Speaking to the media after the tour of the Mines at AGA, Mr Paul Yandoh, Ashanti Regional Communications officer of the NPP said it was shameful that the former President was bent on using lies to sell his message of seeking power.
He noted that the current status of AGA was attained through the appeal Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu made to President Akufo-Addo to revamp the mines.
Mr Yandoh said it was therefore unthinkable for the Former President to insinuate that the AGA mines were non-functioning when there were ample evidence to the contrary.
“Today we in the NPP communications Directorate are glad that the truth has been heard by your humble selves and as journalists you now know who to believe because it is apparent that John Mahama lied about Anglo-Gold Ashanti that the mine is not functioning”, Mr Yandoh stated.
