Alhaji Mutala, a well-known Tendaana and Chief, also known as Janton Naa, from Janton in the Savana Region, was discovered dead in Suuriyiri, a neighborhood of Wa in the Upper West Region. His body was found in his room, surrounded by blood, on Thursday, April 11, 2024, just a day after the Sanlah festival.
He had sustained a severe throat wound, presumably inflicted by unidentified attackers.
The Wa Regional Police conducted initial investigations and transported the body to the Wa Regional mortuary for autopsy. Following Islamic traditions, his family performed the burial after the autopsy.
Seidu Tampuori Iddrisu, the deceased’s nephew, revealed that a suspect, a long-time friend and business partner of Naa Janton, had visited their house on the night of the incident, taking the deceased and his friend out before returning shortly before the murder.
The suspect has been apprehended and remanded into police custody by the Wa District Court as investigations continue. Mr. Iddrisu expressed dismay at the brutal nature of the killing and urged the police to swiftly solve the case for justice to prevail.
He emphasized the family’s readiness to pursue justice through all available means if the authorities fail to deliver it.
