Following Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh’s selection as the running mate for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the 2024 presidential election, the contest to replace him as the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South has commenced.

On Thursday, July 4, the National Council of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) officially endorsed Dr. Opoku Prempeh, commonly known as ‘NAPO,’ for the running mate position.

President Akufo-Addo expressed his enthusiasm for the decision, describing the Bawumia-Opoku Prempeh ticket as an “excellent pairing.”

Shortly after NAPO’s endorsement, campaign posters for Nana Owusu Afriyie Prempeh, the Manhyia South Constituency Treasurer and NAPO’s brother, appeared, signaling his intention to run for the parliamentary seat.

Reports indicate that other aspirants have begun holding private meetings with delegates to discuss their candidacies.
