Upholding Truth: Mr. Asante Champions Quality Journalism at Book Launch2 min read
Ebenezer Twum Asante, Senior Vice President of Markets at MTN Group, stressed the vital role of quality journalism in a democratic society during the launch of Nana Kwasi Gyan-Apenteng’s book, “Truth Over Speed”, at the British Council Hall in Accra.
At a recent book launch in Accra, Mr. Asante delivered a powerful speech emphasizing the critical role of quality journalism in our current information landscape.
He highlighted the dangers of rampant misinformation and disinformation, stressing that responsible journalism not only holds power to account but also keeps the media itself accountable. Furthermore, it empowers citizens by providing a platform for marginalized voices and the information needed to make informed decisions.
Recognizing the need for investment to achieve this high standard, Mr. Asante urged the private sector to step up. He called for increased investment in media capacity-building and development initiatives. This, he argued, would cultivate a future-proof media industry, well-equipped and authentic, that aligns with the country’s development goals.
“Our commitment to democracy demands a media clean-up,” Mr. Asante declared. “We need policies that empower strong, reputable media houses to produce quality work. We must also adequately reward talented journalists to attract and retain them.”
The event, chaired by the prominent Okyehene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, celebrated the launch of “Truth Over Speed” by Nana Kwasi Gyan-Apenteng. A seasoned journalist and media consultant himself, Nana Kwasi Gyan-Apenteng brings a wealth of experience to this comprehensive resource for journalists, media professionals, and anyone passionate about the field.
“Truth Over Speed” delves into various crucial areas, including ethical practices, data journalism, and security reporting. It equips practitioners with principles, standards, and practical guidelines for their daily work.

The launch also benefited from the participation of distinguished guests like Rev Joyce Aryee, Ms. Elizabeth Ohene, Madam Ajoa Yeboah- Afari, Ambassador Kabral Blay Amihere, and other leading media figures.
