Mahama Vows to Provide Free Sanitary Pads to Schools Girls1 min read
The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama has promised the distribution of free sanitary pads to girls in basic and senior high schools (SHS) nationwide.
The former President announced this at the launch of the 2024 manifesto for the December 7 election in Winneba on Saturday.
Mr Mahama stated the initiative forms part of efforts to alleviate Ghanaians in the current economic hardships.
The pledge comes after public discourse and social commentary suggesting to government to eliminate import duty on imported sanitary pads.
The proponents have argued that menstrual cycle comes with its own complications, therefore, imposing taxes on sanitary pad is unacceptable.
