Ghanaian football icon Asamoah Gyan has announced his departure from political engagements to focus on humanitarian initiatives and youth development.

Gyan, who previously served as the chairman of the Youth and Sports Manifesto sub-committee for Mahamudu Bawumia’s presidential campaign within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), made his decision known through a social media statement.

Gyan, the all-time leading scorer for the Black Stars, expressed his regret for not prioritizing youth-focused projects earlier. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he shared, “I haven’t been fair to the youth and the people of Ghana. From now on, I will not be affiliated with any political party and will redirect my efforts towards humanitarian work and supporting Ghanaian youth.”

He also called for a peaceful election on December 7 and reaffirmed his commitment to remaining outside of politics. “No political involvement. I wish all the political parties a peaceful election on December 7. God bless our homeland, Ghana. Thank you.”

Gyan outlined his vision for youth empowerment through sports, emphasizing his commitment to giving back to the community that shaped him. “Football has opened doors for me globally, but it is the lessons of resilience, discipline, and unity learned here that have shaped my success. My goal is to empower Ghanaian and African youth through sports and philanthropy.”

He reiterated his dedication to remaining politically neutral, stating, “This is not about politics; I am fully independent from any political influence.”

Gyan revealed plans to create sports academies, training centers, and mentorship programs to support young athletes across various sports disciplines. He also highlighted the importance of education and life skills in preparing Ghanaian youth for future success beyond athletics.

Through the Asamoah Gyan Foundation, the Moah Green Foundation, and the All-Regional Games, Gyan aims to establish initiatives that foster young talent and provide comprehensive support. “We will build sports academies, training centers, and mentorship programs to develop young talent in all sports. Additionally, we’ll focus on education, character, and life skills to equip our youth for success beyond the field.”

Concluding his message, Gyan expressed his belief in the unifying and inspiring power of sports. “Together, we can leverage this power to uplift the next generation and build a brighter future for Ghana and Africa.”
