No More Room for Cheaters: WAEC Takes Action Against WASSCE Violations

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has revealed numerous violations during the West African School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and is committed to holding accountable all exam officials and candidates involved in misconduct.

Among the infractions identified were the photocopying and distribution of answers, concealing foreign materials within examination halls, and the smuggling of mobile phones by both candidates and teachers.

“During the examination monitoring, our inspectors noted several irregularities involving Supervisors, Invigilators, and candidates. We will implement appropriate sanctions to ensure that all responsible parties face consequences as outlined in our examination regulations,” WAEC stated.

The Council also expressed gratitude to those who reported suspected cheating, highlighting their crucial role in upholding the integrity of the examination process.

The WASSCE, which commenced on August 5, 2024, with the Visual Art Project, concluded on September 20, 2024.

A total of 460,611 candidates—212,954 males and 247,657 females—from 1,003 schools participated, with examinations held across 1,000 centers nationwide.
