Akufo-Addo Proudly Touts 80% Promise Fulfillment, Credits Free SHS as Key Legacy1 min read
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has proudly asserted that his government has fulfilled 80% of the promises made to the Ghanaian people, citing major strides in education, particularly the flagship Free Senior High School (Free SHS) initiative.
Speaking during his “Thank You” tour in Takoradi, Western Region, on Wednesday, November 6, the President reflected on the achievements of his administration, emphasizing how Free SHS has transformed the nation’s education system. He pointed to the policy as a cornerstone of his legacy, noting that it has provided thousands of students with the opportunity to pursue higher education—something that was previously out of reach for many due to financial constraints.
“Before my administration, over one hundred thousand students each year couldn’t continue their education after Junior High School simply because their parents couldn’t afford the fees,” Akufo-Addo explained. “Over a span of ten years, one million young Ghanaians missed out on the opportunity to further their education. The introduction of Free SHS was to ensure that no child is left behind due to financial challenges.”
The President also used the occasion to urge Ghanaians to support Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming elections, highlighting that continuity in leadership would enable the government to build on the successes achieved so far.
