Laporta Fires Shot At Real Madrid Amid Negreira Case: “They Have Always Been Favoured”2 min read

Club president Joan Laporta, among other things, has torn into Real Madrid for showing opposition to the trials, accusing the Spanish giants of being close to power and feeding off of referee’s decisions for decades.

“Real Madrid wanting to take legal action against Barcelona with unprecedented claims is purely cynical. They have always been favored by the referees, to this day. We all know it. I hope this trial exposes that,” Laporta said (h/t Barça TV+).

The Barcelona president’s comments come about a month after Real Madrid decided to announce their opposition against Barcelona and their position as an accuser in the trials.

Laporta said Real Madrid are a ‘royalty team’ that has historically been close power. “Real Madrid have always been considered the royalty team, close to power. In the last seven decades, the executives in refereeing committees have always been club members or former board members at Real Madrid,” he said.

Continuing his scathing attacks on Real Madrid, Laporta added, “Real Madrid joined the hate campaign, even though they are the club that have always been favored by the refereeing decisions.”

“I hope that this trial will expose how much Real Madrid have been favoured by refereeing decisions over the years.”

The Barcelona president also threatened all the accusers of defaming the club and said the club have the right to sue every entity who have been involved in the allegations.

“We reserve the right to sue people for damages. The compensation can be astronomical,” he said.

Laporta had previously stated that Barcelona will be ready to just defend but also ‘attack’. He has doubled on his conviction to sue the defamers in this recent press conference. It will be interesting to see how things develop over the coming months.
