Coach Michael Essien not interested in Black Stars job1 min read
This was revealed by Nigerian journalist Lolade Adewuyi, who recently met with Essien in Denmark where he now works for FC Nordsjaelland.
Essien, a key player for the Black Stars from 2002 to 2014, has set his sights on coaching and has recently obtained his UEFA A and UEFA Elite Youth Coach licenses.
The 40-year-old is making progress towards his goal, and is now based in Denmark where he works for FC Nordsjaelland, a club that once had Ghanaian star Mohammed Kudus on their roster.
Adewuyi shared the news on Twitter, stating: “On my way to Naples, had a long layover in Denmark where I met a legend of the game, Michael Essien. He’s now a coach at FC Nordsjaelland in the Danish Superliga. He recently got his UEFA A and UEFA Elite Youth Coach licenses. Future Black Stars coach? He said not interested.”
Essien retired from professional football in 2020 after winning numerous titles, including the Champions League and the Premier League twice.
