The Asokore Mampong District Court has charged Inspector Ahmed Twumasi with murder over the death of Victoria Dapaah aka Maadwoa.
The court has, therefore, remanded him to prison custody.
Inspector Ahmed Twumasi will reappear before the court on 20th June 2023.
The Prosecutor, ACP Kofi Blagodzi said that Attorney General Godfred Dame and IGP George Akufo-Dampare have shown interest in the matter and that the sitting on 20th June will determine whether the case would be referred to the High Court or not.
The late Maadwoa’s family and friends upon seeing Inspector Twumasi rained insults on him amidst wailing and gnashing of teeth.
They sought justice for the late Maadwoa.
Background
It could be recalled that, 27-Year-old Maadwoa was shot dead by her boyfriend, Inspector Twumasi on Thursday 20th April at Adum in Kumasi for allegedly cheating on him.
But when Inspector Twumasi was speaking in court during the first sitting on April 25th, 2023, denied killing Maadwoa.
“Maadwoa owed me Ghc5,000. I didn’t intend to kill her. What happened is between me and God.”
Inspector Twumasi is said to have allegedly fired multiple shots to kill Maadwoa.
According to some eyewitnesses, they heard the deceased, Victoria Dapaah begging the young man only identified as Takum, not to kill her and that she has not cheated on him.
He is reported to have jumped into a rickshaw [a light two-wheeled passenger vehicle – commonly referred to as Pragya in Ghana] and bolted.
Victoria, said to be a mother of one, was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
According to eyewitnesses, Inspector Twumasi was seen chatting with the deceased before shooting her at close range.
“After the first two shots, she was pleading with the guy to stop and he added three more shots before jumping into a rickshaw [a light two-wheeled passenger vehicle] to run away.
“Because he was holding a gun, we could not attempt to arrest him,” said the eyewitnesses.
