Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has urged the Electoral Commission (EC) to develop a backup plan to address the numerous challenges hampering the ongoing limited voter registration exercise.

The registration process has been marred by various difficulties, resulting in numerous individuals being unable to register.

Following a site visit to a voter registration center, Afenyo-Markin stressed the importance of the EC implementing a contingency strategy to ensure that every eligible voter is registered before the deadline.

“It’s imperative for the Electoral Commission to enhance its registration system. It’s evident that if issues like network failures persist, meeting the schedule might be in jeopardy. The frustrations and delays need urgent attention,” he remarked.

“Therefore, I urge the Electoral Commission to establish a backup mechanism because the current frustrations are excessive. I encourage them to meet the expectations placed upon them.”

Other figures, including the National Democratic Congress (NDC) running mate, Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, have also suggested extending the registration deadline to compensate for the time lost due to technical glitches.

Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo has called upon all eligible voters to register, emphasizing the importance of participation in Ghana’s democratic process.
