President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to elevating Ghana into a bilingual nation, with French integrated into its linguistic fabric. He underscored ongoing initiatives aimed at realizing this vision, including the introduction of bilingual education in select subjects at the elementary level.
Speaking during the 60th-anniversary celebrations of Lycée Français International Jacques Prévert d’Accra, President Akufo-Addo emphasized the goal of establishing a Ghana where both French and English are spoken alongside indigenous languages.
“Our government is dedicated to nurturing a bilingual Ghana, where the languages of French and English harmonize alongside our rich tapestry of indigenous tongues. We have already embarked on tangible steps towards achieving this objective,” he affirmed.
Catherine Dauer, Principal of Lycée Français International Jacques Prévert d’Accra, lauded the academic achievements of the school and highlighted its collaborative efforts with other educational institutions.
“As the principal of Jacques school, I take immense pride in our accomplishments. It’s a truly enriching experience as we cater to a diverse student body of approximately 700 students from Ghana and around the globe, connected through networks like the AFC, the French Agency for French Language Abroad,” she elaborated.
“In total, there are 555 schools worldwide under this network, each interlinked. As a French institution, we actively cultivate partnerships with Ghanaian and American schools,” she added.
