Asamoah Gyan’s Retirement Sets Stage For Coaching Career

Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association Fred Pappoe is confident Asamoah Gyan will turn out to be a successful coach if he engages in the profession.

The former Ghana captain brought to an end an illustrious career that spanned 20 years in an announcement on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at the 30th Afreximbank Annual Meeting in Accra.

Having achieved numerous feats as a footballer, Gyan hinted at continuing to engage in football in other aspects.

“I will put my experience and knowledge to use in the field of coaching football business and scouting,” Gyan wrote in a statement via his social media handles.

Reacting to the announcement, Fred Pappoe who commended Gyan for his achievements, particularly with the Black Stars urged the 37-year-old to go ahead into coaching if he deems it a fit job after retirement.

According to him, with Gyan’s experience garnered over the years through the numerous exposure enjoyed in his remarkable football career, success would equally be translated into his proposed coaching career.

“It is good if he says he wants to go into coaching because he’s been exposed to a lot of coaches. He’s played at the highest level and I’m sure he’s started taking his coaching training programs very seriously,” he told 3Sports.

“I believe he is getting almost close to the top level. I’m quite sure Asamoah will turn out to be a very good coach. He has the right mentality to succeed.”

Gyan ended his playing career as Ghana’s all-time top scorer with 51 goals in 109 appearances while maintaining the record as Africa’s top scorer at the World Cup with six goals.
