During his 25th anniversary celebration as the 16th occupant of the Golden Stool, Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, advocates for prioritizing the restoration of Ghana’s environment, deeply scarred by the detrimental effects of illegal mining, commonly referred to as Galamsey.
Emphasizing the imperative of combatting Galamsey through all possible means, Asantehene highlighted the responsibility of the present generation in safeguarding the legacy bestowed upon them by their ancestors, stressing that they cannot be the ones to compromise it.
In a resolute call to action, he urged for decisive measures to reclaim the environment from the devastation caused by Galamsey activities, asserting, “We cannot be the generation that destroys the most gracious heritage bequeathed to us by our forefathers to satisfy the greed of a few miscreants. For whatever it takes we must defeat this scourge.”
