Austin Gamey Applauds Organised Labour’s Bold Strike for Justice1 min read
Labour expert, Austin Gamey commended Organised Labour for standing up for the marginalized in Ghana.
This praise comes as the group prepares to launch a nationwide strike starting October 10, 2024, due to the government’s failure to tackle the pressing issue of illegal mining, or galamsey.
In an urgent meeting on October 1, Organised Labour expressed their growing frustration with the government’s inaction.
They had previously set a deadline for action by the end of September, stressing that unchecked illegal mining is harming both the environment and the livelihoods of many citizens.
Joshua Ansah, Secretary General of the TUC, emphasized that the strike was a necessary response, stating, “After our deadline expired without any government action regarding illegal mining, we are left with no choice but to declare a nationwide strike effective October 10, 2024.”
In an interview, Mr. Gamey acknowledged that while the strike might disrupt daily life, it is ultimately a “worthy disruption.” He urged Ghanaians to recognize Organised Labour’s vital role in advocating for the voiceless in the country.
