Bawumia Pledges to Finalize National Cathedral Project and Engage Stakeholders1 min read

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, has committed to completing the National Cathedral project if he is elected president, underscoring the substantial state funds already invested.

The initiative, originally planned as a private venture, has faced controversy due to revelations that over GHC339 million of public money has been used so far.

In a media briefing on August 25, Dr. Bawumia highlighted the significance of finishing the project given the financial resources already committed. He proposed collaborating with various stakeholders, including church representatives, to determine the best path forward and explore additional funding avenues.

Dr. Bawumia also indicated that the project’s design might need to be reassessed to ensure its completion. He emphasized the importance of engaging in comprehensive discussions with church leaders and other stakeholders to outline a viable plan for moving forward.

“The National Cathedral is a crucial matter because public funds have been invested, and many people are eager to see its completion. I believe it is essential to engage with stakeholders and churches to find the best solution for completing the project,” he stated. “We need to thoroughly discuss whether the design needs revision to finish the project, and these discussions should involve all relevant church leaders and stakeholders.”
