Bawumia Touts Akufo-Addo Administration’s Improvements Over Mahama Era1 min read
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has commended the achievements of the Akufo-Addo administration, highlighting significant strides in improving the lives of Ghanaians compared to the tenure of former President John Dramani Mahama.
Despite recent economic challenges, Dr. Bawumia asserts that the quality of life for Ghanaians has notably advanced over the past seven years.
He contrasts this with the difficulties experienced during Mahama’s presidency, citing issues such as frequent power outages (“dumsor”), escalating unemployment, tariff hikes, and business closures.
Backing his claims with data, Dr. Bawumia underscores the adverse conditions prevalent during Mahama’s term, including shortages of essential supplies in schools, cancellation of teacher and nursing training allowances, and strain on healthcare services.
The NPP flagbearer highlights the government’s proactive approach in implementing policies to mitigate hardships, notably the reinstatement of teacher and nursing training allowances. He emphasizes that these measures have led to job creation, surpassing previous administrations.
Among the administration’s accomplishments, Dr. Bawumia points out the moderation of electricity tariff increases, provision of free electricity for lifeline users during the COVID-19 pandemic, and a notable increase in Ghana’s per capita income from GH¢7,756 in 2016 to GH¢19,464 by the end of 2022.
In dollar terms, he notes a rise from $1,978 to $2,353, reflecting tangible progress under the Akufo-Addo administration.
