The President of the Ghana Kidney Association is calling on the public to live healthy lifestyles so as to protect their kidneys.
In a press statement, Dr Sampson Antwi urged the public to adhere to the treatment of risk factors like hypertension, diabetes and the avoidance of abuse of pain killers as well as herbs.
The President stated that the Association has taken note of recent public discussions on kidney and cost of dialysis in the country.
A recent 100 per cent increase in cost of dialysis at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital triggered public uproar.

Although the Hospital has since reversed the payment, a national discourse on cost of dialysis and affordability for patients who are already burdened with other medical costs aside the dialysis session is ongoing.
Prof. Sampson Antwi disclosed that the Association is engaging stakeholders to make dialysis accessible and affordable to the general public.

His outfit is encouraging patients diagnosed with kidney disease to seek early treatment to slow down the rate of deaths associated with the disease.
