Bobrisky Sentenced to Six Months in Jail1 min read
Nigerian social media figure Idris Okuneye, widely recognized as Bobrisky, has been sentenced to six months in jail, with no possibility of paying a fine. The ruling was issued by Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos on the morning of Friday, April 12.
The judgment came after Bobrisky confessed to four charges of misusing the Nigerian currency, the Naira, filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Bobrisky’s legal woes arose from an incident where he conspicuously sprayed money during the premiere of the highly anticipated film “Ajakaju,” produced by actress Eniola Ajao, at the Film One Circle Mall in the upscale Lagos district of Lekki last month. Videos of the occurrence circulated widely on social media platforms, potentially prompting swift intervention by the authorities.
This occurrence isn’t the first time a Nigerian celebrity has faced legal repercussions for mishandling Naira bills. In February, actress Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin was also sentenced to six months in jail for comparable offenses, which involved spraying and stepping on new Naira notes.
