Members of Calvary Charismatic Church (CCC), a Charismatic church based in Kumasi on Saturday congregated to donate blood to restock the Blood Bank at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
This is the 8th time the church was embarking on such a drive which is organised ahead of the birthday of the church’s general Overseer, Reverend Ransford Obeng, who turns 68 on June 6th.
Last Saturday saw an increased number of members taking part in the exercise due to other activities that were happening on the campus of the church including a Men’s Fellowship Meeting and Pastors and Lady Pastors Conference.
Taking turns to donate blood, the church members were screened by the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital team that had mounted stands for the exercise.
General Overseer of CCC:
Speaking to the media, Reverend Ransford Obeng disclosed that days before turning 60 years he decided to use every birthday of his to do something to help the needy in the society.
He noted that after each donation exercise for the past 8 years, he has had reports from KATH that it was a useful of exercise.
Reverend Obeng used the opportunity to thank the church members for showing commitment for the course he initiated 8 years ago.
“I couldn’t have done anything meaningful to help KATH Blood Bank or the society if the church members had not bought into my vision and so i request that other churches and institutions adopt this style and help to restock the blood Bank that needs 80pints of blood every day at the facility”, Reverend Obeng stated.
Head of KATH Blood Transfusion Unit:
Dr Leslie Owusu, Head of Komfo Anokye Medicine Transfusion Unit thanked CCC for the continuous donation of blood to her outfit.
These donations, she noted enables the unit to attend to emergencies and cases requiring the use of blood.
She asked other institutions and corporate organisations to emulate the church’s donation drive and to help to restock the KATH Blood Bank every time.
“KATH Medicine Transfusion Unit is overwhelmed with the show of commitment of CCC to supporting us restock the Blood Bank and these yearly donations have been hugely beneficial and so i urge all other churches and other organisations whether private or government to emulate same and support us with such donations”, Dr Owusu noted.
