Chief Justice, Her Ladyship Gertrude Araba Esaaba Torkornoo, has delivered a firm message to legal professionals, urging them to avoid unethical practices in their field.

Addressing the 2024/2025 Annual General Conference of the Ghana Bar Association, Justice Torkornoo expressed her concern over the growing trend of lawyers prioritizing financial gain over ethical standards.

She noted a troubling increase in the number of lawyers being referred to the Disciplinary Committee of the General Legal Council for misconduct, stressing the urgent need for a shift in professional values.

Justice Torkornoo underscored that the legal profession should be viewed not as a shortcut to wealth but as a respected vocation that requires integrity and dedication. In response to these challenges, the General Legal Council is working with the Council of Law Deans to integrate legal ethics into law school curricula.

She urged lawyers to remember their critical role as upholders and defenders of the law, rather than merely seeing it as a means to financial success.
