Digitalization Project At NHIA Saves Scheme 9.5 Million—-Dr Da-costa Aboagye Reveals.2 min read

Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr Da-costa Aboagye says the rigorous digitalization project implemented at his outfit ensured that the Scheme saved 9.5 million cedis that was going to wrong pockets.

Speaking at a stakeholder forum at the Lancaster Hotel in Kumasi, Dr Aboagye said having taken over as acting CEO, he together with the IT department and management decided to do an audit of the entire operations at the NHIA.

Preliminary investigations, the CEO noted revealed that some persons and facilities were earning money through double payments while others cashed in on fraudulent deals.

“With our digitalisation project we have been able to save the Scheme from losing GHC 9.5 million that were going to wrong pockets and facilities and we are convinced that our system strengthening measures would yield more results to make the Scheme robust against incidences of fraud or double claims”, Dr Aboagye stated.

Actuarial:
The CEO noted that the scheme was currently exploring avenues to put more disease and illnesses on its treatment and drug list.

This, he however, stated would be based on the research and actuarials that are done.

According to the CEO, the Scheme would want to implement or add on to its disease payment list when they can sustain such care and treatment.

“Currently apart from the free dialysis sessions we are giving to renal patients across Ghana 🇬🇭  we also treat persons who have acute kidney diseases freely”, the CEO intimated.

Equitable Care:
Dr Da-costa Aboagye noted his desire to build a NHIA that would deliver equitable service to the people of Ghana.

He noted that for now what the Scheme was fully concentrated on is providing primary health care to its members and the people of Ghana.
