A former General Secretary of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Dr Titus Bayuo has bemoaned the negative impact of the capping of statutory funds such as the National Health Insurance Scheme Fund.

The Earmarked Funds Capping and Realignment Act passed in 2017, provides that funds from statutory sources like the NHIF for each financial year should be equivalent to 25 percent of national revenue.

This measure, Dr Titus Bayuo says, is depriving the National Health Insurance Scheme of the required funds.

Speaking on the Ama Ghana Morning Show on Time FM 97.7Mhz with Nana Kwabena Ampratwum, he urged the next government to review the capping of the NHIS fund.

“The levy for the NHIS have not been increased for the past 20 years since the Scheme was introduced but a lot of sicknesses have been added to it,” he wailed.
