Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Dr. Awal Mohammed has disclosed government is still in talks with organizers of the Afro Nation music festival to determine the future of the event in Ghana.

According to him, Ghana is looking at extending its partnership to keep hosting the event in Ghana.

However, he indicated that the previous partnership agreement still holds, except they are looking at extending that relationship.

“Afro Nation has not been taken away from Ghana. We even had a meeting last week. We discussed it. There are certain demands they want and we are trying to look at how to collaborate. It has not been taken away yet. But we have alternatives,” he said.

He was speaking in an interview with Joy Fm at Monday’s Editor’s Forum program at the Accra City Hotel.

“Most likely. Very likely. This year, over the next three years,” he added when he was asked if the event was returning to Ghana again.

Ghana’s government signed a 5-year partnership deal with Afro Nation. The first edition was held in December 2019, took a break due to the coronavirus pandemic, and returned in December 2022.

There have been reports that the music festival may not return to Ghana in 2023, adding that it would rather be held in Nigeria.

However, Dr. Awal has assured Ghanaians, its partnership still holds.
