Ghana’s Economy Has Moved From ICU Heading To The Morgue – Alex Segbefia1 min read
In his view, the government has mismanaged the economy.
It is recalled that former President John Dramani Mahama earlier indicated that the economy under the Akufo-Addo administration was in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Mr Alex Segbefia who is also the Director of International Relations of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) said this on TV3 that it has moved from the ICU and “The economy is nearing the morgue.”
He further stated that the World Bank gave Ghana $ 1 billion during Covid but that was not enough for the Akufo-Addo government.
Presently, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has also approved $3 billion for three years to support Ghana.
In his view, the only difference between the IMF’s bailout and the $ 1 billion support from the World Bank is that, with the Fund’s programme, there is going to be direct supervision on the utilization of the cash.
For his part, Member of Parliament for Sekondi Andrew Egyapa Mercer insisted that the Covid-19 and the Russia-Ukraine warfare impacted the economy negatively.
