She is also calling for what she describes as “a list of shame where the name of a Media House that violates Media Ethnics are published and sanctioned”.
Speaking on the topic, “Moral Vision and National Development, the Role of the Media”, at the National Development Conference at Gomoa Feteh, Mrs Afenyi Dadzie noted that “such an initiative among others will go along way to minimize the use of intemperate language on the airwaves”.
She also reiterated the need for the swift passage of the Broadcasting Bill.
Mrs Afenyi Dadzie indicated that the Media have the mandate to inform educate and entertain, however, the Media in Ghana also have the role to uphold the responsibility and accountability of the government.
She said although this has been done effectively, more can be done especially when some media are in bed with previous and past governments. This is further compounded by the setting of Media outlets by Politicians to push their agenda. She said “it is high time to clear the airwaves from foul language and politics of insults.
A Former Minister of Women’s Affairs, Zimbabwe, Dr Olivia Muchena delivery a talk on “Raising Effective Politicians for Africa” said there should be an institution that will train and nurture politicians as this will help them deliver on their mandate.
She said elections should not be seen only as a contest but a moment to evaluate the stewardship of Politicians.
At the end of the two-day conference, a National Moral Vision Policy will be developed to chart a way forward towards national development.
