Ghanaian movie producer and actress, Yvonne Nelson has said that God is her strength and comfort following the controversy surrounding the release of her memoir “I am not Yvonne Nelson.”

It comes barely two days after Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie denied asking her to abort a pregnancy back in 2010.

“God is our strength and comforter,” Yvonne Nelson tweeted.

The award-winning Ghanaian musician Sarkodie has denied claims that he forced his former girlfriend Yvonne Nelson, one of Ghana’s most respected actresses, to terminate a pregnancy back in 2010.

The actress revealed in her recently published memoir – I Am Not Yvonne Nelson – that she was impregnated by the rapper in the harbour city of Tema, but said he refused to take responsibility for the pregnancy.

On page 93 of the book, Nelson says the decision to abort the pregnancy haunted her for many years, and that it was one of the biggest mistakes in her life.

“Having an abortion is one of the regrettable mistakes in my life,” she wrote in her fast-selling memoir.

“If the clock of life could be rewound to my younger self, I would keep it. But the benefit of hindsight is sometimes not useful because the lessons learned cannot be retrospective.

“I don’t know how others who have been through it feel, but my abortion haunted me for many years,” Nelson said.

Just try me
Telling his side of the story in a newly released song, titled “Try Me”, Sarkodie disclosed that even though he wasn’t prepared at the time, he wanted Nelson to keep the baby, but he says she refused on the grounds of being in school.

“Try Me” has gone viral since its release yesterday (27 June 2023).

In the song, the musician says he did not want to disclose that side of his life until his death but he has been forced to come out with details because Nelson told a story which favours her.

“I’m not going to lie, we had a thing./First, I thought we had a thing/Until I had a hint that there were many guys,” the lyrics of the song say. “I tried to stay away but then you came that you were pregnant./But then I wasn’t ready but I told you to keep it.

“You told me you were schooling, so you needed to complete it/but till today, I don’t believe it./I told you to let my doctor take care of you/and you sent a text later that your friend had recommended one of the best doctors …” added Sark, as he is popularly called.

Counter-diss
Nelson has responded to the song by “The Landlord” in a series of tweets.

“Insults won’t work, Michael. Respect womanhood, I’m happy the world gets to see how you are playing this and the real you.

“Young women get to learn from this. You would get the applause for a rap; still doesn’t change the truth,” the actress tweeted.
