Government Begins Payment Of Food Suppliers1 min read
The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong has announced the government will from today July 19start to pay the arrears owed to the National Food Suppliers.
Bryan Acheampong speaking on the Floor of Parliament on Tuesday 17 said payment will be completed by a month.
He said the Ministry and the government don’t have any challenges with the suppliers and that they are very surprised about the happenings about a week and fortnight ago.
Mr. Acheampong confirmed that the first instalment of GH¢100.00 million was already paid to the food suppliers on Monday, July 17, with the remaining amount scheduled to be cleared by the end of August this year.
The Government’s decision to pay 50% was well received by the Second Deputy Majority, Mr. Habib Iddrisu, who applauded the Minister for the resolution efforts.
In response, the First Deputy Speaker, Mr. Joseph Osei-Owusu, presiding over the session, encouraged the Minister to engage in negotiations and come to an agreement with the National Food Suppliers Association to settle the debt.
