The Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) has expressed strong opposition to the recent increase in water and electricity tariffs.

GUTA argues that the upward adjustments, announced by the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), will further strain the already high cost of living for Ghanaians.

The PURC justified the tariff hikes, which took effect on October 1, citing factors such as exchange rate fluctuations, inflation, and rising gas prices.

However, GUTA’s Public Relations Officer, Joseph Paddy, criticized the decision, stating that the increase is unjustified and will exacerbate the financial burdens faced by Ghanaians.

Paddy emphasized that the government’s economic policies, including fluctuations in exchange rates, have contributed to the rising cost of living.

He warned that the new tariffs will make it even more difficult for Ghanaians to make ends meet.
