Lebanon’s Hezbollah militant group confirmed that its leader, Hassan Nasrallah, was killed in an Israeli airstrike in a southern Beirut suburb.

Nasrallah, a key figure and founding member of Hezbollah, had long been a target of Israel.

The assassination took place during a Hezbollah leadership meeting in Dahiyeh.

The Israeli military acknowledged the airstrike, emphasizing its precision.

Following the news, Lebanon saw widespread mourning, with Nasrallah’s supporters flooding the streets and expressing their grief.

The Lebanese Health Ministry reported six fatalities and 91 injuries from the strikes.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defended the action as critical to Israel’s objectives, though he warned of potential retaliation from Hezbollah and Iran.

Hezbollah, condemning the attack, vowed revenge and pledged to continue its fight against Israel. Allies, including Hamas and Iran, also condemned the assassination and offered condolences.

The killing of Nasrallah escalates already rising tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, as both sides have been involved in cross-border attacks.

This intensifying conflict has displaced thousands and worsened the humanitarian situation across the region.
