I Can’t Decide Outcome Of The Election – Akufo-Addo Speaks After Voting In NPP Super Delegates Congress

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has stated that he has not approved any of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer candidates.

He claims he cannot influence the outcome of the elections.

Speaking to press after voting in the super delegates congress on Saturday, August 26, he stressed the importance of the flagbearer bringing everyone on board to assist the party break the 8-year election cycle.

“I haven’t endorsed anyone,” he stated emphatically.

The delegates are debating whether to cut the number of candidates from 10 to five.

Kennedy Agyapong, Alan Kyerematen, Joe Gartey, Kwadwo Poku, Dr Afriyie Akoto, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, Francis Addai Nimoh, Dr Kofi Kunadu Apraku, Boakye Agyarko, and Dr Mahamudu Bawumia are the ten aspirants.

The NPP leadership informed all delegates ahead of the super delegates congress that publicly showing cast ballots is a criminal violation.

The parties issued notice that those who violate this clause would face legal consequences in accordance with the law.

“Delegates are hereby informed that any cast ballots publicly displayed will be rejected,” warned the Presidential Election Committee in a statement issued on Thursday, August 24.

“We wish to emphasize that there will be no congress on the day of voting, and voting will be strictly walk-in,” it continued.

“In light of this, it is expected that there will be no provision for a public address or opportunity for any National Party Executive, government representative, or regional executive to publicly address delegates on the day of the election.”

“We would like to reassure all relevant parties, including stakeholders, delegates, aspirants, and the general public, that with these guidelines in place, no individual will be able to decipher the voting preferences and patterns of specific voters after the voting process is completed.” This safeguard ensures the voting process’s integrity and anonymity.”
