Ghanaians can expect some relief from the recent internet outages as repairs are underway for the four undersea cables that were cut on March 14th.

The National Communication Authority (NCA) has announced that internet service for users on the SAT-3 cable is expected to be restored by the second week of April. A repair vessel set sail on March 19th from Cape Town and is expected to reach the fault zone on March 29th. Repairs will begin immediately, aiming for completion within the next few weeks.

Users on the other three cables – ACE, WACS, and MainOne – will have to wait a bit longer. These cables require a collaborative effort and a separate repair vessel, deployed from London on March 24th, is expected to reach the first point of repair by April 8th. A full restoration for these cables is anticipated by May 9th, 2024.

The NCA emphasizes that these timelines are tentative and unforeseen circumstances during repairs could cause delays. They assure the public that they will continue to provide updates as the situation progresses.
