Jospong’s Tamale Wastewater Treatment Plant Inaugurated2 min read
Northern Regional Minister Alhasan Saani Shaibu has inaugurated a 1,000 metric tonne Wastewater Treatment Plant at Gbalahi, a suburb of Tamale in the Sagnarigu municipality of the Northern Region.
The Regional Minister said about 98% of the faecal matter generated in the metropolis is diverted, sadly, into people’s farms – which has a negative public health effect on the people.
Alhaji Shaibu said government has been strategic in implementing sustainable development policies that will address many of the country’s teething problems.
The facility was established by Jospong Group of Companies and particularly Zoomlion Ghana Limited, and is a €20million project for which the company entered into a partnership with the Hungary Exim Bank.
The facility seeks to end inappropriate sludge water disposal in the Tamale Metropolis, and will receive faecal sludge from Tamale and its adjoining municipal and district administrative areas such as Sagnarigu, Savelugu, Naton and Mion among others.
The State Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, Mr. Tristan Azbej, was delighted that the Hungary-Ghana relationship has begun yielding results – and hoped it will be sustained in the interests of the two countries’ people.
He urged workers at the facility to manage it properly so it lasts for the country.
On her part, Chief Operating Officer-and Sanitation cluster, JGC, Mrs. Florence Larbi gave glory to God for making the dream a reality; and appreciated the Ghana and Hungary partnership which is keenly led by the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources and President of the Republic.
She was hopeful that the partnership will continue to the benefit of Ghana and Hungary’s people.
The COO was representing Executive Chairman Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, and commended the Tolon Naa on whose land the facility is situated – as well as all his royal chiefs and people who flanked him at the ceremony for their willing release of land for the facility’s purpose.
