KMA To Re-Roof Asem Cluster Of Schools Building.1 min read
The Kumasi Metro Director of Education, Mr David Oppong has commended the Mayor of Kumasi, Hon Samuel Pyne for responding swiftly to a distress call by the headmasters of Seven schools under the Asem Cluster whose roofs were destroyed in a recent storm.
Speaking to this reporter on Monday, Mr Oppong said the rainstorm had rendered some of the classrooms unfit for habitation.
He noted that in totality seven schools under the cluster had completely lost their roofs with the Yaa Asantewaa block hardly hit.
“We are grateful to the Kumasi Mayor for responding swiftly to our call for help by dispatching heads of department of both Works and Finance to assess the situation and to advance funds for the reconstruction to begin”, the Director stated.
Timelines:
The contractor had assured that he could use two weeks to complete work on the affected school blocks, Mr Oppong stated.
This, he noted followed a tour of the place last Thursday with the Heads of Departments at KMA, the contractor and some staff at the school, adding it became clear that the damage was extensive.
“We are sure that by two weeks time when work begins same would be completed and pupils would return to their original classrooms as some were now putting up with others in the blocks that were not affected”, Mr Oppong stressed.
Affected Schools Under the Cluster.
During the assessment schools whose roofs need urgent attention were Asem Mixed Experimental Junior High school, Asem Mixed Primary B and Asem Mixed Kindergarten.
The rest were Asem Boys, Yaa Asantewaa MA Basic school, Yaa Achiaa Primary and St Augustine Junior High School.
