President Akufo-Addo has terminated the appointment of Dr. John Ofori-Tenkorang as Director-General of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), effective from Monday, April 15, 2024.
In a letter dated April 8, 2024, signed by the Secretary to the President, Nana Bediatuo Asante, Dr. Ofori-Tenkorang was instructed to promptly hand over responsibilities to one of his deputies, Kofi Bosompem Osafo-Maafo.
Citing the termination of Dr. Ofori-Tenkorang’s appointment in accordance with his 2019 appointment letter, the letter directed him to cease acting as Director-General by the close of business on April 15, 2024. President Akufo-Addo expressed gratitude for Dr. Ofori-Tenkorang’s service.
Kofi Bosompem Osafo-Maafo, the son of President Akufo-Addo’s Senior Advisor, Yaw Osafo-Maafo, has been appointed as the new Director-General.
Speaking on the Ama Ghana Morning Show on Time FM, Kojo Ellimah, representing the Center for Social and Impact Studies and CSO’s representative on PIAC, expressed concern about the management of SSNIT over the years.
He criticized President Akufo-Addo’s approach, suggesting that if one doesn’t align with the President’s wishes in a position, they risk dismissal.
Ellimah pointed out Akufo-Addo’s prior praise for Dr. John Ofori-Tenkorang during his last State of the Nation Address, questioning the sudden change in stance.
