The Ghana Police Service (GPS) has dismissed rumors of a shooting incident at the Kumasi office of the Electoral Commission (EC) during the recent ‘Enough is Enough’ demonstration.

Despite circulating allegations, the police assured that no demonstrators were harmed by gunfire.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the police explained that a group of protesters tried to breach security by entering the EC office compound unlawfully. Police intervention helped to contain the situation and prevent further escalation.

The GPS has called on the media to be vigilant and accurate in their reporting to avoid spreading false information.

However, the protest did lead to unrest in Kumasi, with police using teargas to disperse supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) who clashed with officers.

Reports indicate that one protester was injured and taken to the hospital, while others attempted to assault a police officer who took refuge in a nearby residence. Another officer was also injured during the confrontation.
