The Asanteman Traditional Council has cleared the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, a.k.a. Chairman Wontumi of any wrongdoing.

The Chiefs summoned the NPP regional chairman after he allegedly made derogatory comments against the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Chairman Wontumi was cleared after his accuser, Kokosohene, Nana Kwaku Duah, was advised to abstain from bringing political related issues to the Manhyia Palace.

“The constitution says that chiefs should refrain from active politics… when the comments were being made Nana Kokosohene should have left the moment, he heard Wontumi say that he cannot even challenge a statement made by the Okyeame – he shouldn’t have sat there,” the Chief said in Twi.

The chief also said that Wontumi limited himself to a political kingdom which means his statement was only about the NPP and not Asantehene and Asanteman.

“He said he is sitting in his Kingdom in an NPP programme means he has limited himself politically, Jehovah witness as a church have built so many Kingdom Halls but that doesn’t mean they have a new Kingdom.”
