Eight people have so far picked their nomination forms to contest the primaries

The governing New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) nomination for the Kumawu by-election in the Ashanti Region will end today, Thursday, 13 April 2023.

The party opened nominations from Tuesday, 11 April 2023, while election will be held on Sunday, 23 April 2023.

Eight people have so far picked their nomination to contest the primaries.

They include former Kumawu MP, Yaw Baah, Edward Kofi Osei, Dr. Philip Bannor, Dr. Dacoster Aboagye, Mr Ernest Yaw Anim, Mad. Ama Serwaa, Kwame Appiah-Kubi, and Osei Hweree Kwame Bempah.

Meanwhile, some residents of the area have threatened to vote against the governing NPP.

The residents cited abandoned infrastructural projects including roads and hospitals in the area and what they refer to as the neglect of the constituency.

Construction of roads in the constituency has, however, commenced.

Work immediately commenced on the Kumawu-Afigyasi road when Roads and Highways Minister, Kwasi Amoako Atta, paid a visit to Kumawu on Wednesday, 12 April 2023.

The Kumawu by-election has been necessitated by the death of the sitting Member of Parliament (MP) Philip Atta Basoah.

He passed away Tuesday morning, 28 March 2023, at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

He was 53.
