Mahama Calls for Nationwide EC Office Protests on September 171 min read
John Dramani Mahama, the presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called on party members to stage demonstrations at Electoral Commission (EC) offices throughout the country on September 17.
This move follows the NDC’s decision to hold a nationwide protest to address issues with the voter register. The announcement was made by NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah during a press conference after submitting Mahama’s nomination forms for the 2024 general elections.
In a speech to supporters in Sampa, Bono Region, Mahama urged them to exert pressure on EC officials to rectify issues and ensure a fair and transparent election process. He emphasized the need for the EC to perform its duties effectively to guarantee a credible election in December.
“If we want free, fair, and peaceful elections, the EC must improve its performance. On September 17, the NDC will demonstrate at every EC office across the country. Our chairman has already announced this,” Mahama said.
He further encouraged supporters to wear their party t-shirts and participate in the demonstrations to demand proper conduct from the EC and support a transparent electoral process.
