Former President John Dramani Mahama has denounced the harassment of journalists and vowed to safeguard press freedom if elected president.

He expressed concern over the rising incidents of harassment against journalists and acknowledged the crucial role a free press plays in a democratic society.

Addressing journalists in Accra, Mahama stated, “I will not condone or encourage harassment of journalists for doing their mandated work.”

He pledged to collaborate with stakeholders to amend laws that hinder journalists’ work, ensuring a safer and more supportive environment for the press.

“I am not going to condone or conjure to harass journalists when they do the work that they have been mandated to do,” he stated.

He added “We are going to sit together and work on the laws” that need amendments to help the work of journalists.
