Make Maintenance Culture Your Priority- Kumasi Mayor To School Heads. 2 min read
The Mayor of Kumasi, Hon Samuel Pyne has appealed to school authorities to keep an eye on infrastructure facilities that are constructed to aid teaching and learning at their outfits so that it lasts long for them.
Speaking at the compound of the New Tafo MA Basic School on Tuesday during the presentation of Two Thousand Dual Desks for five sub-metros in Kumasi, Hon Pyne said ‘’it is important that while the government does its part to invest in infrastructure, school authorities also oversee the maintenance of same’’.
He noted that many facilities, especially the ones the government has constructed in many parts of the country, have been left to rot away because authorities failed to maintain the same.
The Mayor therefore urged that rather than allow such investments to go waste, school authorities should as a matter of principle have a team to maintain the facilities the government put up for them.
Commitment:
The Kumasi Mayor said the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly under him stands committed to investing into educational infrastructure.
He also noted that more funds would be expended by the Assembly to complete educational projects embarked upon by previous administrations.
Hon Pyne said it was not wise to pump money into new projects when similar may be around begging for completion and usage.
‘’I have told my technocrats that I am not going to approve any spending on any new project when existing ones have not been completed. I am determined to therefore spend internally generated funds (IGF) and others on finishing projects which were undertaken by predecessors so we can have value for money spent’’, Hon Pyne stressed.
Metro Directorate of Education:
Receiving the desks on behalf of the Metro Director of Education, Mrs Judith Mensah Panford, Head of Planning thanked the Mayor for the gesture.
She noted that this widespread donation of furniture and desks was the fourth time the KMA and the Mayor were doing this year.
Mrs Panford promised to supervise the use of the desks and other facilities the KMA was providing for the schools under the Kumasi Metro Directorate of Education.
‘’We are grateful to the Mayor for his thoughtfulness and the support from the Assembly and we promise that the desks and other facilities the KMA was granting to us would be taken good care of as we also determine to maintain same so they can last long for us’’, the Head of Planning stated.
Assembly Member:
Mr Patrick Frimpong, Assembly Member for Krofrom who doubles as Presiding Member for the KMA thanked the Mayor for the gesture.
He also commended the KMA for carrying out huge investments in the education of the children in the five submetros in Kumasi.
Meanwhile, the PM also provided some sets of football jerseys to the pupils at the school.
He urged them to use same for their Physical Education activities in the school.
